I WOULD LIKE TO HELP PEOPLE BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM DESPERATION
Soner Olgun, one of the powerful voices of Turkish music, died at the age of 67 due to pancreatic cancer, which he had been fighting for a while.
After Olgun’s death, his statements in the Haber Bahane program hosted by Gökay Kalaycıoğlu on Haberler.com in October 2023 came to the fore again. The artist’s words, especially about despair, death and the desire to heal people, attracted attention.
“SOMETIMES I HATE BEING A INDIVIDUAL OF THIS SOCIETY”
Expressing his discomfort with the violence in society and people’s attitudes towards each other, Olgun particularly reacted to the ill-treatment of women, children and animals.
Olgun said, “We are deficient in love. We are deficient in relationships. We still kill women. We still beat women. We still rape children. Look, I’m talking fast. Because, as a member of this society, all these are reasons that make me angry. We still torture animals. We even kill them. We rape, kidnap, oppress children. There is so much to be angry about. Sometimes I hate being a member of this society.”
“I WANTED TWO SUPER THINGS IN MY LIFE: ONE IS TO BE A HEALER, THE SECOND IS TO BE SUPERMAN”
Explaining that he sometimes felt helpless in the face of the negativities experienced, the artist said that he dreamed of having extraordinary powers to help people.
Olgun said, “The helplessness of not being able to do anything. This is the greatest suffering of many good people. There are a lot of negative things and I cannot do anything to prevent them. And I cannot find any solution. And I remain helpless. It is a very hurtful thing. It is something that makes people feel hurt by themselves. Then I already want to be a super person. I have such a feeling. I would love to have super powers. Just for this reason. I wanted two super things in my life. One is to be a healer, the second is Superman.” “to be,” he said.
“MANY PEOPLE ARE DYING IN INCREDIBLE DESPAIR”
He explained the reason behind his desire to become a healer with the following words: “I would like to help all kinds of people I can. In terms of health. I attach great importance to it. Because many people are dying or crawling in incredible despair. My dream is to be a cure for them.”
“TO BE GOOD, YOU HAVE TO TAKE A LOT OF HARD”
Stating that he believes that goodness strengthens people, Olgun said that his perspective on life has changed over the years and said, “Kindness is empowering. I think I have gotten stronger for about 15-20 years since I turned 40. Because it is very easy to be bad. You have to go through a lot of difficulty to be good. And living with difficulty gives you strength. Pursuing goodness and beauty without any fear really strengthens you. Because you have a lot to fight for in your head or in daily life.”
