HE MADE A BALLOON THAT RISES USING SOLAR ENERGY BY JOINING TOGETHER TRASH BAGS
The solar-powered balloon made by 38-year-old Halil Akdeniz, who lives in the Sinanpaşa district of Afyonkarahisar, by combining approximately 600 garbage bags, brought to mind the images recorded in their local accents by two young people who saw a person paragliding in the district years ago.
Halil Akdeniz made a balloon that rises with solar energy from approximately 600 garbage bags he combined. Akdeniz, who has been interested in paragliding for years, carries out flight experiments with the balloon he developed with the information he obtained from sources abroad. Explaining that his interest in aviation started in 2006, Akdeniz stated that he learned about paragliding from internet forums at that time, but could not start flights due to insufficient resources. Explaining that he received information about parachutes from Savaş Kantarcı in 2010 after his return from military service, Akdeniz stated that he later made flights and attended the course held in Pamukkale to obtain the P2 certificate and received training from Cemalettin Eroğlan and Dinarlı Fatih Karataş.Benefited from sources abroad
Stating that he came across the idea of a balloon rising with solar energy before his military service, Akdeniz said that he followed a foreign person flying with helium and discovered solar-powered balloons while researching the cost of helium. Akdeniz, who intensified his research during the pandemic period, said that he obtained information and documents from people abroad, especially Laurent Besset and Paul Ferney, who worked in this field in France, and that he decided to make his own balloon by preparing a simpler design in line with the information he received.
The lifting capacity of the balloon is between 80 and 90 kilograms
Stating that he encountered durability problems in the balloon he prepared by combining approximately 600 garbage bags, Akdeniz stated that he tried to strengthen the connection points by using duct tape first and then fiber tape. However, Akdeniz stated that there were openings at the joints of the balloon and tears in the nylon, and that he continued his experiments by repairing the damaged parts. Stating that his own weight is 101 kilograms and the seat belt and ropes he uses weigh approximately 7 kilograms, Akdeniz said that the lifting capacity of the balloon he made is between 80 and 90 kilograms.
