EUROPE’S MOST RELIABLE SKI RESORTS IDENTIFIED WHERE TO GO THIS WINTER
Europe’s most reliable ski resorts have been named: where to go in winter
Researchers analyzed historical data on resorts for seven winter seasons in the Northern Hemisphere.
A new study has identified the European ski resorts and regions most likely to offer favorable skiing conditions – the ranking includes the best destinations for active winter holidays, Euronews reports .When choosing a ski vacation destination, it’s important to consider not only the resort’s infrastructure, but also the weather conditions, the stability of the snow cover throughout the season, and the accessibility of lifts and slopes.
No destination can guarantee perfect conditions in all weather conditions. However, travel company Inghams Ski analyzed over 100 popular ski resorts and regions in the Northern Hemisphere and compiled a Reliable Ski Score – a rating of the reliability of ski conditions on a 100-point scale.
During the study, the experts considered several indicators. The condition of the ski infrastructure, i.e., the average percentage of lifts and trails operating during the main season, was given the greatest weight—35%. Another 25% was snow cover adequacy—the percentage of days with at least 30 cm of snow at the base station. The resort’s stability from season to season (20%), resilience to adverse conditions – the difference between the average and worst season figures (12%), and average snow depth in the mountains (8%) were also assessed.
The researchers examined historical resort performance for seven winter seasons in the Northern Hemisphere—from 2017–2018 to 2025–2026, excluding seasons impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary analysis period was from January 5 to March 20.

Analysts have named the three most reliable ski destinations.Pontedilegno Tonale, Italy
The Pontedilegno-Tonale region in northern Italy has been ranked as Europe’s most reliable ski destination, according to research by Inghams.Situated between the Val Camonica valley in Lombardy and the Val di Sole valley in Trentino, this mountainous region boasts glaciers, nature reserves, and high-altitude areas.
The region demonstrated consistent results across all key indicators. Researchers estimate that skiing here can be expected to be uninterrupted and the slopes to have stable snow cover.
The ski area boasts 46 slopes, with the highest point of the resort reaching 3,016 meters above sea level. The slopes of Ponte di Legno pass through dense pine and spruce forests. The Passo del Tonale is located at the foot of the Presena Glacier, and the total length of slopes in this area exceeds 44 km.
On certain days of the ski season, Inghams recommends taking advantage of the opportunity to ski during Alba in Quota, which means “dawn at altitude.” During this time, the lifts open earlier, allowing skiers to catch the sunrise on the slopes before the official opening.Obertauern, Austria
The Obertauern ski resort in Salzburg, located at an altitude of 1,752 metres, took second place in the ranking. There are over 100 km of trails for both beginners and experienced skiers. The season typically runs from November to May.
As Inghams noted, all resort hotels operate on a ski-in/ski-out basis: guests can access the ski slopes directly from their rooms.
Obertauern also boasts a well-developed network of cross-country ski trails ranging from 6 to 23 km in length. Among them is the Gnadenalm trail, a moderately difficult trail. It lies at an altitude of 1,350 meters, approximately halfway between Obertauern and Untertauern. Due to its unique location, this area is known as the “snow basin.”
Le Arc, France
Third place went to the French resort of Les Arcs, located in the heart of the Alps. It is surrounded by alpine meadows and glaciers, and one of its peaks reaches 3,226 meters. The resort boasts 200 km of ski slopes. This year’s winter season is scheduled to begin on December 12 and run until April 24, 2027.
Le Arc is part of Paradiski, one of the world’s largest integrated ski areas. According to researchers, the resort is suitable for both freestyle enthusiasts and those seeking consistent skiing conditions.
